Every Yard A Sale

May 20th, 2013

The posh but not really posh neighborhood of Russett in Laurel had a yard sale this weekend. I came to work and promote but instead did a little shopping. I’ve reached that point in my life now where I like yard sales and experimental cooking. “Over the hill” is what my parents used to say when someone turned 30ish.

I’m over the hill and running down faster than my feet can carry me due to momentum.

Credit this find to the movie Oblivion.

I saw his most famous work there (Christina’s World) and Googled the hell out of him.

Mr. Andre Wyeth, enjoy.

590 Million Reasons To Be Salty.

May 20th, 2013

This past weekend we bought some lottery tickets. The jackpot was sitting at an astounding $590 million dollars. Half a “Billie”. Like the rest of the nation, we trying to get this money. We do the usual “what would you do” rundown. I’d buy this, save that, help them, cuss so and so out.

The funny thing about this hopeful purchase of 10 tickets was at two dollars a piece, I gave the cashier 20 dollars.

He in turn gave me 10 tickets and…20 dollars back.

So it’s only right I don’t win shit right?

OneShotEats: On The Border

May 20th, 2013

You get what you expect from franchised restaurants right? A few things are good here and there, you get the same thing every time in fear of not liking something “different” and you overpay for the alcoholic drinks. Nothing new. On the Border is much of the same. It was my first time going and the food was not bad, good amount. The drinks are American Mexican to say the least.

I ate,I had a drink, I was full, and that’s all I got.

OneShotPoetry: This Is A Story About Love

May 16th, 2013

"Woman Stealing A Man's Heart" Alberto Ruggieri

This is a story about love.

It folds into many shapes and will fly in the wind if you let it. Able to adapt to the weather and changes that try to break love, she is never going to give up. When all the odds are against her which happens more than she would like, she remains love. This life of love is a cruel one at times, and when they sky gets dark she only speaks of the sun. It’s remarkable the diligence of love and how she remains who she is. She is a strong one, a real one, a true one, an unclaimed one. Everyone needs love, while some people just want love. Love is there no matter what desired levels occur. Love makes things happen and love is what’s happening. Ode to love for she is constant and powerful. Love is of many things and all one thing. Love breathes the air of fortune and exhales what is left of lust. Love is the margin between everything you aspirations and your reality.

Shout. Out.

May 16th, 2013

I moving and that warrants some shout outs…

Crofton, Titan Cigar, the real deal cubby hole. You can watch the game, get smacked and smoke a free cigar. No negatives in that equation.

Kingstowne. Perfect land USA. It’s not really perfect and it’s fairly expensive but it’s a nice place none the less. Movies, shopping, white folks. Kings Buffett, my goodness your food is good.

Edsall Road. Alexandria’s middle class section. Home of Mr. Wash. Southport Apartments and Big Bite Pizza. I’ve given the pizza shop a cool 2 million dollars when I lived over there.

Northwest D.C. Eighth Street and Tolson School. What can I say? I love working with my people, it’s always…unpredictable. Forman Mills. The liquor store. Edgewood projects. The fucking carry-out. The hood crossing guards. The fact that all of this was so close to Trinity College. The mix that is Washington D.C.

 To be continued…

OneShotAristocrat: Download Manager

May 16th, 2013

In the infinite pursuit to find great stuff for free, and the magic that is YouTube, I embrace the Download Manager App with sheer love and affection. This app basically lets you download ANYTHING to your phone for keeps. So that rare episode of Inspector Lewis when Inspector Morse dies or the one where they find the driver of the car who killed Lewis’ wife, exactly!

Instagrm, Twitter, and now Download Manager.

All hail modern techonology.

I’m not sure what’s more American than grilling meat in tube form with bacon and cutting your grass.

OneShotArt: Andre De Freitas

May 7th, 2013

I imagine that the gates of art creativity stand no chance of being blown down by technology. If there are apps that can find you a free park or order your dinner before you leave your work desk. Traditional art stands no chance agasint digital art.

Enjoy.
